A Better Future Is Still Coming (Despite What You’re Hearing)

Less than four out of every ten people today believe the next generation will have a better future.
Read that again. That’s not just a statistic — that’s the sound of hope fading in millions of hearts.

Pessimism is spreading. Confidence is crumbling. And when you look around — wars, inflation, natural disasters, political chaos — it’s easy to understand why.

If you’ve ever had to turn off the news just to breathe again, you’re not alone.

The weight of it all can feel crushing. And as believers, we see the signs of the times and can’t help but wonder: Is this the end? Should I be afraid? What kind of world will my children inherit?

But right into the middle of all that fear, God speaks a word that has never lost its power:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.” — Jeremiah 29:11

Here’s what matters: those words weren’t written during a golden age. They were spoken to people living in exile — displaced, anxious, surrounded by loss. And yet God reminded them that their story wasn’t over.

Neither is ours.

That means, pessimism about the future has grown sharply; fewer people expect improvements for the next generation now than at any time in the last 50 years

The Biggest Fears in Each Era

EraTop FearsPercentage Feeling Pessimistic/Fearful
1950s – 1970sNuclear war, job loss (automation), economic stagflation, breakdown of social order, assassinations, decline in institutional trustUndocumented nationally, but high fear during Cold War crises and economic downturns; optimism about future still prevalent
2020sPolitical conflict, economic instability, inflation, climate change, job loss due to AI/automation, digital privacy, decline in institutional trust, misinformation, global diseaseOnly 36% globally expect a better future for next generation; up to two-thirds of young adults report fearing the future

The same God who held Ancient Israel’s future holds yours. The same promises that steadied their hearts can still calm your heart.

The news may predict decline, but heaven’s forecast hasn’t changed: God’s plans for His people are still good.

When you look at the world and feel that flicker of fear creeping in, remember this — prophecy isn’t a threat; it’s a testimony. Bible prophecy is a cannot-ever-fail promise. Every fulfilled promise proves the next one will come true. God has never once failed to do what He said He would.

Wait for it.

So while the world expects less, we can expect more — more peace, more faith, more of God’s presence guiding the days ahead.

Because our hope was never meant to rest in governments, markets, or headlines.

Our hope rests in the One who still says, “I know the plans I have for you.
And that’s a promise strong enough to silence our fear.

Always remember: The news may change every hour, but God’s promises never do.
